Overview

I create semi-abstract landscape paintings in mixed media and acrylics. Central to my work is the idea of transience and journey towards the light. I am fascinated by the atmospheric changes of light and weather that mist, rain, sunlight and clouds bring to the land.

Through my paintings I aim to express the awe, serenity and freedom I experience in the outdoors. Sketching outside on location is my starting point. The separation involved in making a painting from sketches distils my memories and impression of a place into paint, especially colours, movement and energy.

The work becomes my journey to express my impressions of a place through layers added and subtracted, and responding to the painting with paint and a wide range of media. This approach allows me to work freely and intuitively rather than as a depiction of a location, leaving my paintings open to other interpretations.

French-born, I have lived in numerous locations throughout Europe and Scotland before establishing myself in Highland Perthshire.
