Dear Sea, Uncle John and the ‘Altaire’ Are Doing Well

"When I was doing my scholarship (Ohio State University, for 2 years) my lovely wee dad would write to me every week to let me know how all my family were doing at the fishing.

During lockdown I started writing letters to the sea and then decided to go through my dad’s letters (from 27 years ago!) The painting title is a quote from my dad about my uncle John doing well on his fishing boat in Shetland. I combined my letters to the sea with quotes from my dad letters."
