Fiona Bayliss

Overview

My name is Fiona and I love to create.

I usually paint and draw using watercolour, acrylics, water-based oils and a variety of other media. For me, it’s all about beauty. The beauty of the natural world is wonderful to me and I try to create beauty inspired by beauty. I’m drawn to landscapes and natural forms: the way that light changes the things that it touches, the way that colours interplay. I am as interested in the beauty of fields, hedgerows and gardens as vast, wild landscapes.

My work is a blend of realism, impressionism and expressionism. Sometimes it is important to me to portray reality, especially when taking on a commission. At other times I will begin a landscape from a sketch, from my photographs or from memory then exaggerate and adjust the colours and composition and create a landscape that develops in a more imagined way.

I am a qualified and experienced Teacher of Art and Design and currently offer classes for adults in my studio. These are small group classes in which I focus on skills, techniques and processes giving plenty of opportunity for people to experiment: a great way to learn new skills and build community.
