Hilary Law

Overview

I was born in Corbridge, Northumberland and attended school in Bridlington, Yorkshire. I moved to Dundee, where I qualified as a dentist at Dundee Dental Hospital in 1973.

After working for the school dental service in Arbroath for several years I became a General Dental Practitioner in Dundee. As my family grew up I took on my own dental practice in Downfield, Dundee.

Art has always been an important part of my life and I have attended several evening classes within the Dundee area including Forgan Art Centre, Graham Streeet College and Duncan of Jordanston, although I was first influenced at a very early age by my mother who was an art teacher.

Now that I have retired I have time to concentrate on my art. Most of my paintings are oil and acrylic although I very much enjoy pastel drawing.

My subject matter is varied from portraits to traditional landscapes. I am particularly drawn to trees and the effect of reflections on water. One of my projects has been to capture the colour and texture of rust. I also enjoy portrait painting and have completed a series of pastel portraits of musicians who regularly performed at Fortingall Hotel.

My husband and I have recently moved to Fearnan by Aberfeldy. Our home is situated in the loch side of Loch Tay where the surrounding countryside gives plenty of new recources.
