My work explores a fascination with colour - an obsession perhaps, found in the abundant life of the garden. While drawings from observation inform the starting point of the work, each piece becomes more about the memory of the perceived, but also the experience felt.
Like memories, some things fade, while others become more relevant, more persistent than initially thought. It is those memories that linger, and return again and again, that are captured in the work. The garden as a place of solace, repair, sanctuary and joy unpins the work.
I live and work in East Lothian, Scotland. My studio is tucked away at the bottom of the garden, and allows me a little sanctuary in which to work, aided by my trusty Lurcher, who sits in 'her chair' watching me work. When I am not in my own studio, I run Paintbox School of Art - an Art School created by myself and my business partner 12 years ago. I truly love the daily engagement with other Artists, and it is such a rewarding job alongside my personal painting practice.
