Mary Farrell

Overview

Jeweller and Printmaker Mary Farrell’s work is grounded in play and experimentation.

She finds inspiration for her hand-made silver jewellery in nature’s forms and patterns. Her work combines the linear and abstract in pieces which embrace the irregular, adding playful elements of movement, texture, and tone.

Her work reflects her habit of garden gathering - the collection and observation of the cycle of flower to seed - and beach walks, tidelines, and shoreline discoveries.
In printmaking, her work combines rich colour, line, pattern and texture, in abstract prints which communicate a sense of the energy and vibrancy contained within the unseen and overlooked elements that make our world. Current work is inspired by cellular imaging, microscopic life and mycelium.
She works mainly in relief and intaglio, sometimes combining processes where the idea dictates, evolving an idea slowly as elements and layers change and grow to create the eventual final print.
A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, she has been based in Fife for over twenty years.
