An Honours graduate in printed textile design from Manchester in 1985, Maryann Ryves was awarded a travel bursary from the Royal Society of Arts and exhibited her textile designs throughout the U.K. the following year.

She worked as a freelance textile designer exhibiting in Paris, Frankfurt and New York and selling to companies such as Sanderson, Next Interiors, Coloroll, Textra, Dovedale, Blydenstein-Willink in the Netherlands and Charles Sammelson in the U.S.A. She also worked on site in the design studio for
John Lewis on a regular basis. She was commissioned to design a collection of rugs which were exhibited at Liberty’s, London.

Maryann turned her attention to painting with a shared exhibition of watercolours in Fulham, London and has exhibited at the Chelsea Open Exhibition and was short-listed for the Royal Academy Summer exhibition.

Since moving to Scotland she has shown work at Pittenweem Arts Festival, The Birnam Institute and has exhibited regularly at many galleries around Scotland. She has been exhibited at the RGI open exhibition in Glasgow,
selected twice for the annual open exhibition at the RSA in Edinburgh, and most recently exhibited in the VAS mixed exhibition Future Folklore in the MacLaurin Gallery, Ayr.

Maryann continues to be interested in colour and mark making.
Her paintings vary in size but oil is her preferred medium.
