Penny Godlington

Overview

Penny Godlington creates paintings which reflect a deep connection with the Scottish landscape. On travels from her home in Strathspey, she gathers visions of distant islands, wave-lashed shores and stormy skies.

She works with acrylics in bold colours at her studio in an old steading overlooking Abernethy Forest in the Cairngorms National Park. Her paintings express the drama of the Scottish Highlands and the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides and Orkney. Her use of strong colour emphasises the power of the elements of these wild places – the wind, the cold, the light, the sea.

Her paintings have abstract elements to them but are always recognisably real places which the artist has visited and experienced, giving the viewer a glimpse of what it felt like to be there, and the emotions the landscapes stirred in her.

Penny studied at Gray’s School of Art, graduating with 1st class honours.
