Overview

Now living in Pitlochry, I was born and raised in South Africa. I was immersed in a family culture rich in both Art and Music. After senior school, I chose to pursue Art over Music—a decision I’ve never regretted. I studied Fine Art at the College for Advanced Technical Education (CATE) in Port Elizabeth and earned my Art Teachers Diploma in 1971.

For 14 years, I taught Senior School Art in Cape Town, finding deep fulfillment in the classroom. I also served regularly as an adjudicator for Eisteddfods and art competitions, and as a moderator for national senior art exams.

My painting practice centres around oils and acrylics, with a preference for large-scale works. While I’m not tied to a single subject, I’m especially drawn to landscapes, portraits, and figure studies. My style is bold and expressive, characterized by strong colour and echoes of Post-Impressionism. Sculpture and ceramics, explored during my art school years, remain creative passions I would pursue more actively with a larger studio space.

In the last 15 years, photography has become a significant outlet. I treasure its immediacy—capturing fleeting expressions or transient skies that vanish in seconds. It’s another medium through which I explore form, light, and emotional nuance.

Although I stepped away from regular artmaking during a long chapter in the corporate sector, I’ve returned to my creative roots with renewed purpose. Reconnecting with the artistic community is both motivating and grounding, reminding me to focus on what truly brings meaning to my life.
