Tricia Sutherland

Overview

Tricia Sutherland lives in Braemar. Born and educated in Aberdeen, she holds an MA and a DPSE from Aberdeen University. Her early career was in education, teaching both Primary and Secondary English as well as Art as a support teacher. She attended life drawing classes at Edinburgh and Glasgow Art Schools.

Tricia later left teaching to co-run an art gallery with her husband, a picture framer. After eleven successful years, she stepped away from the business to focus fully on her own painting practice.

Working primarily in oils and favouring the Alla Prima technique, which compliments her rapid, spontaneous style, Tricia often blends abstraction and representation. Her work explores colour and mood, aiming to capture not just what is seen, but the feelings evoked, offering a sensory impression of time, place and mood of the moment, whether painting landscapes, seascapes, figures, still life or animals.

Tricia’s paintings are held in private collections around the world.
